Your Place to Live - Making it Happen. A manual, DVD and CD Rom
to help people with learning disabilities and their families plan housing
and support. Your Place to Live was created by Claire Hall and Alicia Wood,
on behalf of Notting Hill Home Ownership and Ealing Mencap. It provides
people with learning disabilities and their carers with basic information
on a full range of housing and support choices.
The manual is a simple self-assessment tool that will provide care managers
and advisors with the information they need to support individuals into
person-centred housing and support options. It takes away the need for care
managers and advisors to be experts in housing and empowers people with
learning disabilities and their carers to take the lead in making housing
and support choices.
The video shows six people with learning disabilities that have moved into
different types of accommodation with different types of support. They explain
why they moved and the options they chose, the new skills they have learned
and how moving has affected their social lives and relationships. There
are also interviews with family members who used to be the primary carers,
support workers and other people who have been involved in the moves. See

and those who support them. Much of this advice will benefit wider client
groups such as people with literacy difficulties, those who do not use English
as a first language and those who need extra support to access the CBL system. Download
